A few weekends ago I attended a portrait workshop at Barnet Guild of Artists’ studio.

In the morning I did a study of the model in pastel and charcoal.

In the afternoon I painted another model in watercolour.

First I did the underdrawing in pencil:

Then I started painting using watercolour:

Abstract Seascape’Dubrovnik’

I wanted to show you this painting’Dubrovnik’, which I painted after I was inspired by the trip I had in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Beautiful Adria sea and the old town really inspired me. It’s a place I would love to go back again.

Painting process

I loved this picture I took in Dubrovnik, so I decided to paint based on this photograph, but I wanted to paint in rather abstract way.

Started drawing using colour pencils.

Painting the sky and the sea using Winsor & Newton drawing inks

Painting roofs in Daler Rowney Fluorescent Red acrylic paint. I like the striking colour

Painting the sea with acrylic paints. I used an ink roller to to give some texture.IMG_2350.JPG

New work ‘Starry Night’

Hello:) I’d like to show you my new artwork ‘Starry Night’..It’s a little bit different style from what I usually do.

Starry night by Yumi Kudo.jpg

I saw this beautiful nature photo, and I was inspired to paint something dreamy and unique.

First I started painting the lake.. I used Winsor & Newton Drawing Inks

Adding blue..it feels magicalIMG_2398

Adding some silver ink

Using a cotton ball, I took some blue ink from the lake and started painting the sky

Dropping silver and yellow inks to paint the stars

Using pastel, I added some trees

Adding more blue ink to the lake

After that, I added little rabbits and a fox using pencil. Then I cut out a paper to create the shapes of a bird, attached them to threads, and suspended them from the top of the artwork, so that they look like floating/flying.Starry night by Yumi Kudo

It’s a bit different style from what I usually do, but I enjoyed making this..hope you like it too!

New Painting ‘Geisha Lady’

Hooray! I finished this new painting of a geisha lady this weekend:)
Hope everyone had a nice weekend:)

geisha lady

I have been experimenting with some mixedmedia techniques, and with this, I used watercolour, acrylics and
monoprinting methods.

First, I painted some patterns which I was inspired by butterflies, and then drew the lady in pencil.

Then I painted the lady in watercolour.

I used monoprint techniques to create the background. First I painted some patterns in acrylics on a glass, then I flipped the glass and pressed it on the artwork to transfer the image.

Finally, I painted more details in acrylics and added some texture with white acrylic paint over the background area.

Hope you enjoyed it:)
