Abstract Seascape’Dubrovnik’

I wanted to show you this painting’Dubrovnik’, which I painted after I was inspired by the trip I had in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Beautiful Adria sea and the old town really inspired me. It’s a place I would love to go back again.

Painting process

I loved this picture I took in Dubrovnik, so I decided to paint based on this photograph, but I wanted to paint in rather abstract way.

Edinburgh Trip

I visited Edinburgh for the first time over the last bank holiday weekend. Edinburgh was a very beautiful historical city.

I visited 5 museums/galleries in Edinburgh, all of them were free admission!

Scottish National Gallery Artworks range from the early Renaissance to 1900 and the national collection of Scottish art.

Scottish National Portrait Gallery  had such a beautiful grand hall

City Art Centre had many great works by Scottish artists, and I enjoyed viewing them very much.

National Museum of Scotland was like a compact version of British Museum. You can look around within a few hours so even if you are on a short trip, you can fit it in your schedule. It exhibits the natural world, world cultures, art and design, science and technology and Scottish history.

Edinburgh is a great city to explore its Scottish culture, history and art.
During the stay I had my favourite Scottish dish, haggis in a pub on Royal Mile.  Delicious..

Of course I visited Edinburgh castle too.

Mixed media painting ‘Coast of Stonehaven, Scotland’

Here is my new painting ‘Coast of Stonehaven, Scotland’

Scottish Seascape

I painted this based on the photograph I took when I visited Stonehaven a few weeks ago.  Stonehaven is a lovely seaside town in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

Here are some photos I took..

Dunnottar Castle was amazing!

This is the picture I used as a reference for my painting

After I had done the rough underdrawing, I used drawing inks by Winsor&Newton to start painting. I found they are great for painting the sea and the sky!

Next I used Conte pastel to paint the cliffs and the land

Used watercolours and inks to add more details and contrast to the picture

I wanted to keep it rather abstract, so I did not paint too much details…and here is the finished piece !

Holiday in Dubrovnik

Last weekend I visited Dubrovnik in Croatia for a short holiday. It was so much more beautiful than I had expected and I totally fell in love with the city.

I wanted to share you some photos.

After arriving in Dubrovnik, I took a cable car to see the entire view of the Old City of Dubrovnik. It was an amazing sight!

Then I took a walking tour on the city wall starting from the Pile Gate. Here are some photos of the view from the top of the walls.

Then I visited monasteries..

Lots of friendly cats in Dubrovnik

On the second day I took a boat trip to Elafiti Islands, which are located in the northwest of Dubrovnik.

Beautiful islands of Kolocep, Lopud and Sipan

I saw dolphins while cruising.. It was amazing!

Dubrovnik is definitely one of my most favourite cities in Europe. If you haven’t visited, I’d highly recommend visiting 🙂

New seascape painting

Hello there:)

I’m back from my holiday in Japan. This year I stayed in one of the Southern islands of Japan called ‘奄美大島 Amami Oshima’, as my parents moved there from Yokohama this year. It’s a very beautiful island with subtropical climate surrounded by the beautiful nature and the sea.
Here are some photos of the island I took..

When I was looking through the photos, I was inspired to paint the seascape in watercolour.

This beach is called Honohoshi Kaigan, which is famous for the round stones and noises they make when the waves hit.

Started painting from the rocks..

Then the sea

Adding the sky and the beach

Added people, more details on the beach to suggest the round stones.

Then splashes of white paints to suggest the waves.

Here is the finished piece:)

Trip to Vienna

Hope everyone had a nice weekend!

I was in Vienna from Friday to Sunday to see Klimt’s paintings and to explore the city. First I visited Leopold museum in the Museum Quarter to see his paintings including ‘Death and Life’ and ‘On Lake Attersea’ The museum had great collections of Gustav Klimt’s and Egon Schiele’s works.

On Saturday I went to Belvedere Palace to see Klimt’s one of the most famous painting ‘Kiss’ The palace was amazing, and I loved the room which was displaying Klimt’s famous paintings.

On Sunday I went to Secession Museum which displays the 34 meter-long painting ‘Beethoven Frieze’ painted by Klimt. Secession was a new art association founded by Gustav Klimt and a number of other artists in 1896 to break away from the main establishment of Viennese artists.

Vienna was a beautiful city with lots of museums, magnificent cathedrals and a lovely river view of Danube (Donau). If you haven’t been there yet, it’s worth visiting 🙂
