Watercolour painting of a cat I met in Croatia

Hello! Hope everyone is having a nice weekend.

I recently painted this portrait of a cat I saw in Croatia.

It was a friendly cat and I took a photograph of her relaxing on the street.

Based on the photograph, I started painting…

First I did the underdrawing in pencil, and then I started painting shadows in dark blue watercolour.

Abstract seascape

Hope everyone had a nice weekend:) It was very sunny and warm here in London yesterday.

Based on the same photograph I shared you yesterday, I painted another picture in acrylic in more abstract way.

Seaside Town Stonehaven

I recently read a book called ‘Painting Realistic Abstracts‘ by Kees van Aalst

and also a book called ‘Abstract Art Painting: Expressions in Mixed Media‘ by Debora Stewart

I found both books inspiring, and they encouraged me to paint more expressively.

Mixed media painting ‘Coast of Stonehaven, Scotland’

Hello

Here is my new painting ‘Coast of Stonehaven, Scotland’

Scottish Seascape

I painted this based on the photograph I took when I visited Stonehaven a few weeks ago.  Stonehaven is a lovely seaside town in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

Here are some photos I took..

Dunnottar Castle was amazing!

This is the picture I used as a reference for my painting

After I had done the rough underdrawing, I used drawing inks by Winsor&Newton to start painting. I found they are great for painting the sea and the sky!

Next I used Conte pastel to paint the cliffs and the land

Used watercolours and inks to add more details and contrast to the picture

I wanted to keep it rather abstract, so I did not paint too much details…and here is the finished piece !
